Spokane Neighborhoods: Northwest

Jeff Stevens, Neighborhood Council President Stevens has held this position at least three times in the past 20 years. What do you think is the best thing about your neighborhood? I think it's basically the backdrop of Dubon Park, the riverside neighborhood, and the golf course downriver. We have the river to the south, and the city park in Riverside.

Actually, what makes Dubon-Dunn River different from other neighborhoods? Access to entertainment areas, proximity to the river, and the city park Riverside. We also have Drumheller Springs Park. This is why my husband and I live here and why we love it.

If you had $100, 000 to solve all the problems in this neighborhood, what would you spend it on? We came up with a project that formed the Shaddle Region and allowed for the proposal of flats and access to the park. This needs a way.

What is your favorite space in the area where you can eat and drink? Download Grill. They work really well and it's a quiet, pleasant space to eat.

Who is working to make the neighborhood better and actually admires you for their work? There is a man who often walks Dauneria Drive and removes the breed with his dog. Last year we gave him a merit award for being a good neighbor. He has a lot of funds set aside to keep the neighborhood clean.

How would you describe this neighborhood in three words? Convenient, home (SW).

BALBOA/SOUTH INDIAN TRAIL

Claudette Ganger, Neighborhood Council President Ganger has been involved in her neighbors' work for 18 years since she moved to Spokane. What is your neighborhood's attraction, hidden gem, or meeting place? Our neighborhood used to have a park called Indian Trail Park. It's possible to think of our attraction, our meeting place. The Sauk Secondary Education Institute is also a meeting place. As our municipality, these organizations have their own meetings. But perhaps Excelsior Wellness is thought to be hidden in the pearl that has infinite circumstances. There is a marker on the land. It is a runic inscription on granite, which people imagine belongs to the Vikings. I don't know if this is everything, but it's an interesting situation and I still believe it as "Viking Cliffs."

What makes your area different from other areas? There are a lot of early high schools - Indian Trail, Assumption, Balboa. Also, there are a lot of churches in this area.

If you had 100, 000 euros to solve a problem in your area, what would you invest it in? Yes, reducing traffic on Indian Trail Road from Francis Street to Kathleen Street. This area moves very fast. The speed limit is 30 miles per hour, but a traffic study done last year showed the average speed was 39 miles per hour. Speed ​​has always been an issue. In the last four years, there have been four traffic fatalities here, mostly due to speeding, and there have been accidents where houses have been hit by cars traveling at high speeds. The bright spot is that we tried our best to get people interested in this work, and we finally succeeded. We also saw zebra zone crosswalks that were no-stops, but still, almost everything is adjustable.

What are your favorite places to go to eat and drink in your area and why? There are a few. Spokane has the best gastropub called Cascadia Public House. It's always busy, a traditional gastropub, and the food is great. There's also an up-and-coming restaurant called Pint House [Burgers & amp; amp; amp; Brews]. Both have different vibes, so use them depending on your mood.

Who is someone who is working hard to make your neighborhood better? There are many people who have been working hard for years. It would be embarrassing to put someone first. Karen Carney, the former Regional Director, took an interest in the speeding problem on Indian Trail Road and has done a lot of work for the neighborhood. We also have new members who have moved here a few years ago who play an active role in the life of the neighborhood. I have to mention the Spokane Full Gospel Korean Temple. They have helped us in the past and volunteered to help with cleanups.

How would you describe your personal area in three words? Quiet, colorful, and busy (EI).

NORTH HILL

Scott Webb Residents' Association President Mr. Webb lives in North Hill and has been involved with the Residents' Association for five years. What do you think is North Hill's greatest attraction, hidden gem, claim to fame? If I had to pick one, it would be the whole Garland area. The Garland Arena seems to be making a comeback, and Ferguson's restaurant speaks to the film industry situation with Benny and June being the most famous. We are lucky to have all of these. A hidden gem is actually Ruth Park. It's a little park on the corner of Whitehouse and Darke that's not well known. We're trying to put benches in it now.

What makes North Hill different from other areas? When you look at the demographics, you realize that outside of our business area, we actually have the highest density of flat housing, but it's a strong working class area. People are proud of where they live. And they feel that every nook and cranny of this area is safe. I'm an avid runner, but I've never felt like I was in a dangerous place.

If you had 100, 000 euros to solve a problem in your area, what would you invest it in? Traffic congestion relief and pedestrian access. I would like to see more sidewalks, especially around the elementary schools. There are still many roads that are not paved. In my opinion, I would like to see the tennis courts at Franklin Park improved. That would definitely increase the popularity of the park.

What is your favorite place to go for a meal or drink in your area and why? I love Bon Bon, a great bar inside the Garland Theater. It's one of my favorite spaces. They make a wide variety of cocktails the old fashioned way. The staff is always friendly and the space is quaint and bright. The restaurant at North Hill on Garland also has a patio with a beautiful view of Garland. It's a great space to entertain in the fresh air.

Who is someone who works hard to improve your neighborhood and actually admires you for their work? I can give it to the supplier team of the Northern Milk Neighbors Council. We all put in centuries of hard work to the best of our ability. Julie Shepherd Hall deserves a special mention. Formerly the president of the Garland Business Region, she is now swept up in our social networking and communication. I am excited to see what she has in store for our neighborhood.

NORTHWEST

Gail Cropper, president of the Croppers Certified Neighbors Council, has lived in the neighborhood for 30 years and joined the council in November 2019.

The best thing about the Northwest Neighborhood? It's Loma Park Vista. It has a backdrop for playing disc golf and is also used for soccer and rugby classes. It has a beautiful green area with game sets, picnic tables, and lots of trees. Last year, we started planning with the Parks Fund to apply for a grant to look at ways to add features related to special needs to this park.

What makes the Northwest different from other areas? Our west line runs along the Eskokan River. For example, it runs along the shore of the Eskokan River, so basically, we have easy access to the beautiful parts of the span. But we don't have any stores within our boundaries, it's completely within reach. We still have a mid-level veteran buyer [Mann-Grandstaff] who takes care of the residents of the span.

If you had $100. 000 to solve a specific case in your area, what would you do basically? Judging from what I've heard from long-time members, it seems that the intersections of Driscoll Boulevard and Wherry Street, and Assembly and Wherry Street are relevant to them. There were some plans that the area agreed to and proposed (due to restrictions on movement), but the intention changed. We were hoping for a ring-like exchange, but it ended up turning into a pavement chip. Some residents of the settlements near the Dwight Merkel [Sports Complex] would like special crosswalks with hawk lights to make travel on the roads quieter.
