5. Jared Leto

Ledger's performance is so compelling that it's literally impossible to put him anywhere but at the top of this list. Ledger transformed the Joker from a comical villain to a misguided, dim-witted, destructive madman in The Dark Knight.

The little details that Ledger highlighted in this film (licking his wounds) almost made you feel sorry for him, but the way he tugs at your heartstrings is so repulsive that it makes you think the character's demise would have been quite benign.
